Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover

By: Diemmy

We all know that highly common cliché don’t we?

‘Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover’

But as a matter of fact, we are all guilty of doing just that. Even if we put our mindsets to purchase a book without regarding the title, cover, or blurb, we still resort to those factors. If it’s not by the cover, we will look at the top charts or search the title before purchasing a novel. We just can’t help it. Recently I had a realisation that I do this very often when picking out a book. Sometimes I decide to buy a book depending on its price…yes, a bad criteria, I know!

Recently I passed a bookstore and something intriguing caught my eye. Displayed on the bookshelf were books covered in brown paper. No cover, no blurb, no author. However, written on the brown paper were words that described the novel with the tag Blind Date With A BookI thought it would be fun a fun idea for Michelle and I to read a book without any prior information besides the keywords on the cover.  With this in mind, I purchased two copies, one for each of us with the intention that once we are finished reading, we would re-wrap it and exchange the novels.

If you guys are readers and want to defy the overused cliché, be sure to set some spare time and have a ‘Blind date with a Book’! It is definitely worth checking out!

Do you pick a book depending on its cover? Let me know what you think about this trend!

What I’ve Been Reading

By: Michelle

These past few weeks, I had the pleasure of relaxing with a book. I thought I would share with you the novels I read, and give you my intake on them.

. . . . . . . .

Fifty Shades of Grey Series
By EL James
I know what you’re thinking… what?! You can’t blame me though. After watching the movie trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey, I had the sudden urge to read the trilogy again. And so, I did. I read all three books within three days. I have mixed feelings about this series. It’s a love-hate relationship. There are moments where I love the story, and times where I find myself rolling my eyes. Despite this, I am very excited for the movie.

. . . . . . . .

Looking for Alaska
By John Green
Miles Halter leaves his home to attend a boarding school to “seek a Great Perhaps”. As a result, he meets his two best friends, the Colonel and Alaska Young. Miles falls in love with Alaska and… “After. Nothing is ever the same”. What happened in this novel was something that I was not expecting. It’s no fairytale, yet provides us a sense of closure unlike any other.

If You Could See Me Now
By Cecelia Ahern
The story follows Elizabeth, who is known to be serious and nowhere near tender. However, she raises her sister’s son, Luke. One day, Luke has an imaginary friend named Ivan. Elizabeth starts to see Ivan herself, believing he is a real life person. The novel has an interesting plot. It made me question what can be real out there, yet we don’t believe in it. I must say though, I was disappointed in the ending and I felt like the book dragged on during certain parts.

Beautiful Oblivion
By Jamie McGuire
I love reading young adult fiction, and the works of Jamie McGuire is something I quite enjoy. When I found out that she released a spin-off from her Beautiful Disaster series, I quickly made my way to the nearest bookstore and purchased the novel. Cami is an independent bartender who is in a long distance relationship with her boyfriend T.J. She becomes friends with Trenton, yet they start to fall for each other. I admit I didn’t have high expectations for this novel, even though I was quite excited to read it. However, the ending was something I didn’t expect. It will shock you. And for me, the very last line will remain imprinted in my mind.

. . . . . . . .

Have you read any of these books? If yes, let me know what you think of them.

Much love,
Michelle

WEDNESDAY WISHLIST: Michelle #2

My second wish list!
This week I have wanted a lot of things... but I did my best to limit it down for this list.

1. SIGMA: ESSENTIAL KIT 10 BRUSHES
I’ve been really into brushes and I really want more brushes for applying foundation that feels nice and gives a flawless look. This kit consists of 10 brushes, 5 of which are kabuki brushes. I really want to give these brushes a try, and it’s Sigma - they are known for their high quality brushes. To see the kit, click here.

2. TOPSHOP: MOTO FLAT 70’S BLUE LEIGH JEANS
It’s getting colder these days as June marks the start of Sydney’s winter. I don’t have a lot of jeans, well, ones that I like to wear. These skinny jeans are such a nice blue, where it looks like it hugs the right places. You can buy these jeans online, here

3. HARRY POTTER: Book Set
I am a book lover. And because I am on break, I have been spending a lot of time reading. The Harry Potter series is definitely one that I want to add in my collection of novels. I’ve already read most of series… but… I still want it. I want to read it again, from start to finish.

4. NARS: ITA BRUSH
Like I said, I’ve been getting into brushes and Nar’s Ita Brush is something I really want to add to my collection. I’ve watched a lot of Youtubers using this brush to contour their face and it seems so easy.

 . . . . . . . .

What is on your wish list for this week?

Much love,
Michelle.
